Thank goodness for games. They keep me relatively sane in these crazy times. Last year was incredibly difficult, to the point where I didn’t even have time to make a 2024 Board Game Awards video. I tend to use these awards to keep you all up to date but I’ll try to keep it brief.
My step-father passed away last year. My mom, diagnosed with late-stage dementia, suddenly needed our care. We began the frustrating and sad journey of finding her a good nursing home, one equipped to handle her needs. Dementia is an awful disease and I hate the idea that one day soon, my mom will be completely gone.
On my own front, I continue to struggle with my own medical issues. While I struggle to get social security disability, I come to find that recent changes in power threatens our SNAP / Food benefits. Despite the proof of a doctor’s diagnosis and note that I cannot work, I still have to worry about keeping my immediate family fed. As I said earlier, thank goodness for games to keep me occupied, but they only serve to distract me from whatever the future holds.
It’s more important than ever that, if you enjoy my content, to consider becoming a Patreon subscriber or donating. If just 2,000 people donated $1/month, we’d be somewhat set for a while. A big shout-out to those who do support me with donations, it’s very much appreciated!
On a more positive note: I’m very, very thankful for Aidalee and our dog, Tiki. There’s no better feeling than having someone there who has your back. Vinnie is 24 now, working full time and on his own. It’s a weird feeling when your kids leave the nest. On one hand you’re worried about them but on the other, you’re proud and excited for their own journey. I feel like this year has taught me the tough act of letting go. That said, treasure those who love and care about you, every second of every day while you can.
For those who made it this far, congratulations and apologies.
I included my 2024 DGA Video Game Awards from last year and my 2024/2025 DGA Board Game Awards from this year below. If I have time I’ll make a Video Game Awards video for 2025, but this will have to do for now. Thank you all for another year of watching (and hopefully enjoying) my content.
